The Secret Behind Rebel Wilson's Weight Loss

Actress, writer, and producer Rebel Wilson inspired her fans and the rest of the world when she kicked off her fitness journey in 2020. Her goal was to lose excess pounds to achieve her ideal body weight. Recently, she opened the year by posting a photo of her program. Check out Rebel Wilson weight loss journey here.

From ‘Fat Amy’ to ‘Fit Amy’: The Beginning of the Rebel Wilson Weight Loss

It is no secret that Rebel Wilson, who is popularly known as “Fat Amy” in the hit movie series, Pitch Perfect, is changing her branding and embarking on a new fitness journey. Rebel admitted that she was an emotional eater and used food to deal with her feelings. The 41-year-old Australian actress knew that that was not at all healthy and she should not continue relying on it.

She was also diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is a condition where obesity is a common finding. As she was turning 40 in 2020, she made it a point to focus on losing weight and becoming healthier. Thus, branding the year as her “Year of Health.”

The Secret to Rebel Wilson Weight Loss

When she started in 2020, she pushed herself to do some of the most strenuous exercises. However, despite her initial efforts to do so, those kinds of workouts were not the key to success.

In a new episode for Apple Fitness+, Rebel shared a trick she got from an Australian doctor she met at a health retreat.

Her doctor told her, “Rebel, the best way for you to lose unwanted body fat is just simply walking.”

“Doesn’t have to be high-intensity, doesn’t have to be uphill, just moderate walking an hour a day,’” she added.

She found it ‘comforting’ to know that, all this time, there was a simple solution to her weight concerns.

Walking is a form of physical activity that helps you burn calories. You can burn approximately 150 more calories per day if you introduce 30 minutes of brisk walking to your daily routine. And the more you walk at a desirable pace, the more calories you will burn. This is why Rebel Wilson weight loss depended mostly on how she incorporated an hour of walking into her daily routine.

What Are Other Benefits of Walking?

For weight loss and long-term weight management, the American College of Sports Medicine suggests around 200 – 300 minutes of exercise per week. But aside from weight loss management, walking can also provide other health benefits that include:

    • Improvement in cholesterol levels
    • Better heart health
    • Lower blood pressure levels
    • Better bone health (which, in turn, can also reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis)
    • Lower chances of other health conditions, such as breast cancer, colon cancer, and diabetes

Exercise becomes even more important after you’ve lost weight. It’s what keeps the pounds off. Studies found that those who engage in regular physical activity are more likely to maintain their weight loss over time.

Rebel also tries to do a few high-intensity workouts now and then with the help of her physical trainer Jono Castano. In an interview, he also shared that eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated are necessary considerations in the process.
