But regardless of what forms of treatment you use, hair loss is hair loss, and in order to understand how to prevent it, we need to know what causes it in the first place.

What is hair loss?

Hair loss, also known medically as alopecia, is a condition that interferes with the natural growth of hair on the body. Alopecia can happen anywhere hair grows in the body, but it’s most common on the scalp.

Hair loss also happens gradually, which is the reason why older people, men in particular, tend to have thinning hair. However, hair loss can also happen to young men, most especially if they have a health condition that leads to alopecia.

What causes hair loss?

Hair loss can be caused by a number of things. Among men, the most common type is known as male pattern hair loss. This is caused by a combination of genetics, and the growth hormones responsible for development during puberty.

Male pattern hair loss can start any time after puberty and slowly develop over years. It usually starts on the temples, and gradually creeps up on the sides and then to the top of the head. Eventually, this can cause a man to grow bald.

Another cause of hair loss is called alopecia areata. This is a condition wherein the immune system itself attacks the hair follicles causing hair loss. This can happen suddenly, and even children can suffer from this condition.

Tinea capitis, also known as scalp ringworm, is another cause of hair loss. It is a fungal infection of the scalp that can cause hair loss, and is most common among children. However, adults can also develop this condition.

These are the more common types of hair loss.

For the most part, hair loss is usually not a sign of a serious medical condition. However, it can cause men to lose their confidence, be more anxious, and can even affect their personal relationships. This is why it is important to figure out what you can do against hair loss. In particular, natural ways to prevent hair loss in men can be a good start before seeking professional help.

Natural ways to prevent hair loss in men

Here are some effective and natural ways to prevent hair loss in men. It is important to note that these tips might not always be effective in completely eradicating hair loss. However, these tips are a good way to help keep your hair and scalp healthy and mitigate the effects of hair loss.

Use a gentle shampoo

Certain shampoos can be harsh on your hair and strip away the moisture that helps protect your hair and scalp. It would be best to use gentler shampoos that can cleanse without stripping away too much oil and moisture. Some people even use baby shampoo since it’s mild and can cleanse without harming your hair.

It would also be a good idea to use a moisturizing conditioner after shampooing to help keep the moisture in your hair and scalp intact. Be sure to not use too much shampoo and conditioner, and rinse it well afterwards.

Keep your scalp clean

Your scalp can be prone to fungal infections that contribute to hair loss. In order to counteract this, you need to make sure that your scalp is always clean and free from dirt and grime. If you tend to sweat a lot, you can wash your hair twice a day to make sure that your scalp is always clean.

If you’ve already shampooed your hair once, there’s no need to shampoo it again. Just be sure to scrub your scalp thoroughly.

Avoid getting stressed out

Being under too much stress can have a number of negative effects on your body, including hair loss. Try to avoid being under too much stress, and take breaks every so often. It’s also a good idea to have a hobby that can help you destress and relax.

Eat healthier foods

Eating foods rich in vitamins and minerals can improve the health of your hair. Be sure to eat less processed foods, sugar, and red meat, and instead opt for fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish.

These tips should hopefully help prevent your hair from falling out. However, you need to know that sometimes, there really is not a lot you can do about hair loss.

At the end of the day, it’s a combination of genetics and various health factors, and some men really tend to lose their hair as they grow older.
