The drug trimetazidine (TMZ) allows for more blood flow to your heart and limits rapid changes in blood pressure. This can help lessen chest pain from blocked blood vessels and improve overall performance in someone with a heart-related disease. It also helps metabolize fatty acids, which helps your body use oxygen.
In Europe, TMZ is approved for the treatment of angina, but not in the United States.
What is trimetazidine?
TMZ is an antianginal agent acting at the myocardial cell (heart cell) level and shown to be effective in minimizing angina attacks, nitrate usage and improving functional capacity. It is now available in a once-daily formulation.
If you have severe kidney problems; tend to get tremors, restless legs syndrome, or other related movement disorders; under the age of 18; are allergic to any TMZ ingredients, have Parkinson’s disease or parkinsonian symptoms; are pregnant; plan to become pregnant; or are nursing, consult your doctor. Do not take any medication that is not prescribed by your doctor.
