Gonadorelin (gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist)

Gonadorelin is the synthetic version of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH is responsible for the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).

What is gonadorelin used for?

  • Primary hypothalamic amenorrhea
  • Gonadotrope stimulation test

How should I take gonadorelin?

This drug is available as an injectable solution. It should be administered by a licensed healthcare professional.

How do I store gonadorelin?

This product is best stored at controlled room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store it in the bathroom or the freezer. 

There may be different brands of this drug that may have different storage needs. So, it is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush this product down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Additionally, it is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.

    • Superficial thrombophlebitis
    • Nausea
    • Abdominal pain
    • Anaphylactic shock
    • Antibody development
    • Hypermenorrhea
    • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome

    What is the dose for an adult?

    For diagnosis of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal dysfunction

    Administer 100 mcg via IV or SQ injection. It should be given in the early follicular stage of the menstrual cycle (day 1-7).

    For primary hypothalamic amenorrhea

    Administer using intermittent pulse pump via IV or SQ injection, providing 5-20 mcg over 1 minute. Repeat every 90 minutes for up to 6 months or until conception occurs.

    What is the dose for a child?

    For diagnosis of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal dysfunction

    Children >1 year: 2.5 mcg/kg as a single dose. Maximum of 100 mcg per dose.

    How is gonadorelin available?

    Gonadorelin is available in the following dosage forms:

    • Solution for injection 50 mcg/mL **not for human use

    What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

    In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room.

    What should I do if I miss a dose?

    If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
