California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is an herb that is part of the family Papaveraceae. It is the state flower of California in the United States. The flower is usually bright orange or yellow in color with small green stems and leaves.

Studies have shown that the California poppy contains several alkaloids that are responsible for its health benefits.
These alkaloids bind to GABA receptors and have anti-inflammatory and anticholinesterase activity. Other alkaloids bind to serotonin and noradrenaline receptors, which have antidepressant and antianxiety effects.
