Chalky and White-Coloured Baby Poop

Chalky and White-Coloured

Describe

Pale, colourless, or white stools might indicate signs of a liver or gallbladder problem.

Bile is a digestive fluid produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Your baby’s stool gets its normal colours from the bile as it is excreted during digestion. However, if your baby’s liver is not producing bile, or if your baby is experiencing biliary atresia (a congenital condition of obstruction of the bile ducts), his/her excreted stools will be white in colour.

What should I do?

The excretion of white stools is very rare, but if notice that your baby’s poop is excreted in this colour, call your health care professional right away.
