Uses

What is Acacia rigidula used for?

Acacia rigidula or “blackbrush acacia’ is a perennial shrub found in the American Southwest and Mexico.

As a dietary supplement it is commonly used for:

  • Promoting weight loss
  • Improving athletic performance

It is important to know that products that contain Acacia rigidula are considered “adulterated” and cannot be marketed legally in the US. It is currently considered a prohibited ingredient.

How does it work?

Some studies have shown that A. rigidula contains a variety of chemicals that have stimulant effects. Because of this, it is often promoted for weight loss and athletic performance.

However, many products listing A. rigidula as an ingredient also contain an amphetamine-like chemical called beta-methylphenethylamine (BMPEA).

Please discuss this with your pharmacist or doctor for more information before you decide to take products containing A. rigidula.

Precautions & Warnings

What should I know before using Acacia rigidula?

Despite being advertised as “all-natural” or “safe,” natural or food supplements must be treated as conventional medication. Certain herbal preparations can interact with other medications you are taking, increasing the risk of adverse drug reactions and toxicity.
