Trivastal Retard 50 (piribedil, dopamine agonist)

Trivastal is a brand name of the generic drug piribedil. Piribedil is a dopamine agonist that works to manage Parkinson’s disease.

Uses

What is Trivastal used for?

  • Treating age-related neurological disorders
  • Adjunctive treatment of arteritis (swollen arteries) of the lower limbs
  • Improving circulation
  • Parkinson’s disease

How should I take Trivastal?

Read the directions on the packaging for complete information. Check the label and expiration date.

For oral dosage forms, swallow it whole without chewing, crushing, or dissolving it in liquid. Drink a full glass of water and take it with meals.

How do I store Trivastal?

Store this product at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store it in the bathroom or the freezer. 

There may be different brands of this drug that may have different storage needs. So, it is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

  • Alcohol-containing preparations

Dosage

What is the dose for an adult?

Take 1 tablet a day, increasing to 2 tablets per day in divided doses for severe cases.

As monotherapy for Parkinson’s disease, take 3 to 5 tablets in 3 to 5 doses per day.

As combination therapy with dopamine, take 1 to 3 tablets in 1 to 3 divided doses per day. Increase the dose by 1 tablet every 3 days, if necessary.

What is the dose for a child?

There is no established pediatric dose. It may be unsafe for your child. It is always important to fully understand the safety of the drug before using. Please consult with your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

How is Trivastal available?

Trivastal is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

  • Retard tablet (sustained-release) 50 mg

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
