What is Neoxidil® (minoxidil) used for?

Minoxidil solution is a vasodilator. It stimulates scalp hair growth and dilates blood vessels in the scalp, which may improve hair follicle function and stimulate scalp hair growth.

Neoxidil® is commonly used for promoting hair regrowth in patients who are experiencing gradually thinning hair or gradual hair loss on the top of the head.

How should I take Neoxidil® (minoxidil)?

Before use, wash your scalp with a mild shampoo. Your hair and scalp must be dry before applying minoxidil solution. Wash your hands after applying minoxidil solution. Allow the solution to remain on the scalp for at least 4 hours before washing. Wait approximately 4 hours after application before going swimming, and do not allow your scalp to get wet from the rain after applying the solution. Wait until the solution is dry before using other hair care products.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use minoxidil solution.

How do I store Neoxidil® (minoxidil)?

Neoxidil® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Neoxidil® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Neoxidil® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush Neoxidil® down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. It is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.
