Choosing the Best Lotion for Dry Skin

There are so many brands of moisturizing lotions on the market today, so it’s confusing to choose just one. But, you have to, particularly if you have dry skin, a common skin condition. More than just being uncomfortable, having dry skin also increases your risk for other problems, like skin irritation and eczema. That’s why choosing the right lotion should be a priority. How do you look for the best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines?

1. Look for lotions containing humectants

To find a lotion that will hydrate your skin well, look for products with a high concentration of moisturizing agents. These can include hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and urea. These ingredients are known as humectants; they can draw water from the surrounding and the middle layer of the skin and transfer it to the outer layer, helping keep the skin moist and plump. You can also check the label to see if it lists specific percentages of those ingredients.

Looking for the best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines? Try Glycosid! It’s not exactly a lotion, but a vegan skin balm containing glycerine. You can also consider Cetaphil’s Daily Oil-Free Hydrating Lotion

Just note that both Glycosid and Cetaphil are more expensive than some brands.

2. Consider lotions containing oils

If you don’t think you need a lotion that contains humectants and simply want to keep moisture in your skin, you can consider lotions that contain occlusives. Examples of these occlusive ingredients are beeswax, mineral oil, vegetable oil, vitamin E, etc.

Looking for the best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines? You might want to try Nivea Intensive Moisture Body Milk. It contains vitamin E, almond oil, and avocado oil.

3. Best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines: Look for lotion with a thick consistency

It’s crucial to look for ingredients when buying a product. But, if you want to know right away if a brand is going to be effective in addressing your dry skin, you can check its consistency.

Thick lotions tend to be more effective, as they don’t drip off your skin and require less reapplication throughout the day. More importantly, thinner lotions don’t moisturize as well as those with thicker consistencies; therefore it makes sense to opt for something closer to cream than water.

Example of a thick moisturizer is petroleum jelly. And it’s not surprising, considering petroleum is a type of occlusive, too. Occlusives, like petroleum jelly, can be quite uncomfortable to use in humid, tropical climates like the Philippines. These feel heavy and thick when applied on the skin.

4. Best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines? Pay attention to the cost

When you’re shopping for lotion, pay attention to the cost of the product. It’s a good indicator of both quality and value.

Consider this: A product that costs less may not be as affordable as you think it is. If it doesn’t moisturize as well or leave your skin feeling oily and greasy, you’ll probably be buying new products more frequently.

Also, the price of the product can be indicative of whether or not it underwent testing for its safety.

5. Make sure there are no synthetic fragrances or colors in the lotion

Make sure there are no synthetic fragrances or colors in the lotion.

Synthetic fragrances can be made from phthalates, which have been linked to a number of health problems and can irritate your skin. Other common fragrance chemicals include linalool and limonene. If you see these in your product’s ingredients list, steer clear, particularly if you have sensitive skin as they are associated with contact dermatitis.

Colors are another ingredient to watch out for on labels. Some artificial dyes contain harsh chemicals that might irritate the skin.

What is the best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines?

So what is the best lotion for dry skin in the Philippines? Brand reputation is not everything, but it is important. If a brand’s reputation is good, it’s likely that they’ve been making quality products and providing excellent customer service for years. They’re also likely to be more trustworthy than brands with bad or no reputation at all. That trust can help you relax when applying lotion to your skin.

But, as there are numerous brands in the market, the best course of action is to consult your dermatologist. They can assess your skin dryness and recommend products that will help you address it effectively.
