The Wanted's Tom Parker Dies at 33 Due to Brain Cancer

Tom Parker, the lead singer of the pop-rock band The Wanted, died at the age of 33 from inoperable brain cancer. His wife, Kelsey Hardwick, confirmed the end of his two-year battle with the disease on Instagram.

Kelsey Hardwick and The Wanted Shared the Heavy News on Instagram

Actress Kelsey Hardwick took her Instagram to share the unfortunate news with everyone. In her post, she mentioned that her husband “passed away peacefully, with his family by his side.”

“Tom was the centre of our world and we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence,” Kelsey shared.

Despite their broken hearts, she extended their family’s gratitude for all the love and support from the people.

“We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in his care throughout, he fought until the very end. I’m forever proud of you,” as she ended the post.

His bandmates, Max, Jay, Siva, and Nathan also posted about the loss of their bandmate and brother.

They wrote,

“Tom was an amazing husband to Kelsey, and father to Aurelia and Bodhi. He was our brother, words can’t express the loss and sadness we feel. Always and forever in our hearts.”

In a separate post, his bandmate Siva Kaneswaran left Tom a personal message on his own account.

“Hey Tom, I hope you’re having a blast up there. I am so grateful that I had a chance to witness your true courage. It has been an absolute pleasure Tommy Boy. Thank you for letting us see you light up the world. Talk to you soon and see you later. Love you brother x.”

In addition to that, Nathan Sykes also posted a video commemorating the memories shared with Tom.

Many fans and artists also shared their sympathy through several comments and Instagram stories following the announcement.

Tom’s Two-Year Battle with Brain Cancer

In October 2020, Tom made an announcement regarding his health, disclosing that he had been diagnosed with brain cancer, specifically stage IV glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma refers to a fast-growing and aggressive type of brain cancer that can develop in the brain or spinal cord. Some people also refer to this brain tumor as grade IV astrocytoma since it usually affects astrocytes which are the nerve-supporting cells of the body. Moreover, it infects nearby brain tissue but not distant organs.

Several symptoms of this glioblastoma are often related to the location of the tumor. For example, if it develops in a region that regulates hand movements, then it may cause weakness in the specific area.

As the tumor grows, it begins to intrude on available space. This raises the pressure inside the skull. The increased pressure in the brain causes some of the symptoms.

Many symptoms of this particular brain cancer emerge gradually and worsen over time. These may include:

Tom reported that his tumor was “stable” a year later (November 2021) after several radiotherapies and chemotherapy treatments.

This year, he shared the stage with his bandmates for the very last time in their concert tour in Liverpool two weeks ago.

Early in March, he also shared that he wrote a book about “finding hope in whatever situation you’re dealt [with].” People may begin to look out for it in July.
